Overview

Jonathan is a UK and European patent attorney and partner with a wealth of experience in the biotechnology and medical sciences fields. His work includes all aspect of patent portfolio management and developing robust IP strategies for clients.

Jonathan has experience of working both in-house and as outside counsel and has worked in many technical areas of biotechnology including: biologics such as antibodies, microbiology, biomarkers, genetic regulation and recombination; vaccines including: viral vaccines, assays, screening methods, transgenic animals, diagnostic kits, novel therapies, pharmaceuticals, formulations, bioprocess engineering, cell line development and cell culture.

Jonathan also works within the medical devices field, including drug delivery devices, stents, catheters and orthopaedic implants, and also in biomaterials.

Experience

Commercial in-house experience at MedImmune Ltd., the biologics arm of AstraZeneca, with particular experience of prosecuting applications for biological therapies
Drafting and prosecuting patent applications for high-profile/headlined Oxford University technologies, such as reactive arthritis prognosis technology
Successfully overturned an examiner in the face of difficult inventive step objections at oral proceedings for anti-mosquito compositions
European Opposition experience with successful outcomes for both opponent and patentee cases
